Police Department (active and reserve):

Flatonia is accepting applications for a Police Officer-full time. 

The City of Flatonia is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Flatonia (pop. 1400) is a Type A General-Law municipality located on Interstate 10 halfway between San Antonio and Houston. The Flatonia Police Department is a full-time 24/7/365 force with eight full-time police officer billets and two reserve police officer billets. The department is located in a modern building with an adjoining volunteer fire department. The department has new pursuit rated Ford Explorers. Police vehicles are assigned to each officer as personal equipment and are fully equipped for police activity.  

The candidate should be an honest communicator with employees, city departments, other cities and all community stakeholders. The Police Officer hire should be fully engaged in the organization and be versed in City policies, applicable laws, and Texas statutes.

The Police Officer billet is an entry level position that will serve a patrol officer and other duties as assigned by the first-level supervisor or the Chief of Police. 

Education and Experience:

1. Must be 21 years of age at date of hire; and,

2. Hold a High School diploma or equivalent required. Any post-high school education is preferable; and,

3. Graduate of an accredited law enforcement training academy; and,

4. Hold a valid Texas driver's license (obtain one prior to the first day of City employment).

This is an entry-level position and any experience in full-time, part-time or reserve law enforcement following completion of a law enforcement training academy is preferred.

Preferred but not required, possession of a Basic Proficiency Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the required knowledge, skills and abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Compensation Package:

(A) Hourly wage is $18.50/hour for the first six (6) months of employment. With acceptable performance determined by the Chief of Police, the hourly wage will be raised to $20.00/hour. Wage year is 2236 hours.

(B) Retirement. TMRS with a required 7% contribution and a 2:1 match.

(C) Certificate Pay

(G) Vision Insurance (optional)

(H) Life Insurance - $20,000 policy paid by the City, other coverage available at the employee's expense

(I) Paid Vacation - depending on years of service

(K) Short Term/Long Term Disability provided by the City

(L) Accidental Death and Dismemberment (optional)

(M) Medical/Dental/Vision - optional for dependents at employee expense

Other:

1. Must reside within a 60-minute commute of the City of Flatonia

2. Police Department personnel are scheduled monthly for duty hours approved by the Chief of Police. When not so engaged for a scheduled shift, they shall be considered "off-duty;" however, they may recalled as required by the Chief of Police.

3. Police Department personnel, regardless of rank, shall perform patrol duties as directed by the Chief of Police
